Well technically there’s employment and then there’s everything else! But for our purposes there are three separate classes of employment that we need to consider:
- Genuinely self-employed sub-contractors who are in business of their own accord.
- Employees who are engaged under traditional employment contracts.
- Worker status, which lies somewhere between the two. A Worker is still self-employed, but is entitled to some employment rights and protections, most noticeably the right to protection against discrimination, and the right to paid holidays.
